What is CMS and AMS and which one to choose?

The CMS Setup

CMS means chassis mounted servo. In a CMS LCG crawler setup you want to use a CMS mount plate to mount the steering servo to the chassis. With the Flatgekko™ C23 V1 Dual CMS Servo Mount you also have the possibility to mount a servo winch to the chassis besides the steering servo.

For a CMS setup you want to use only one front upper link (mostly the right one) to avoid bumpsteer and other disadvantages and use the Flatgekko™ C23 V1 Panhard Mount and a panhard link to stabilize the setup.

The Flatgekko™ C23 V1 Dual CMS Servo Mount, the Flatgekko™ C23 V1 Panhard Mount and the panhard link are included in all Flatgekko™ C23 V1 CMS Chassis Kit.

The CMS setup is more scale but can raise the COG (center of gravity) of your LCG crawler. We recommend to use the CMS setup mostly on rigs built for SORRCA Class 2 as it gives you additional scale points, any other comp rulesets where CMS is recommended or maybe a must or if you simply prefer its scaleness.

The AMS Setup

AMS means axle mounted servo (a.k.a. SOA, servo on axle). In an AMS LCG crawler setup you mount the steering servo onto the front axle with the help of an AMS mount. AMS mount is fully axle dependant and can be provided by stock like the Capra one or any aftermarket manufacturer.

The AMS setup is not so scale like CMS but it takes the COG (center of gravity) lower. This way the AMS setup is a perfect choice on LCG crawlers built for performance driven comp rulesets like WRCCA Performance Scale, ISRCC International Scale Rock Crawler Championship™ or if you prefer performance over scaleness.

The C23 V1 Supaflat LCG Chassis Rails

The Flatgekko™ C23 V1 Supaflat LCG chassis rails are famous for their special design having no rear shock hoops. The rear shocks are mounted directly to the chassis rails giving the possibility of building a real-world flat bed that is more scale and even lowers your COG (center of gravity) in the rear end.

Due to the laid shock positioning the C23 V1 Supaflat version needs some special shock setup and treatment. After laying the shocks they significantly soften up so you want to use shorter shock ETE (eye-to-eye) and harder springs in rear to reset proper stiffness.

The Pro-Line Pro-Spec 90-95mm Scaler Shocks perfectly fit in front (maybe drooped to 80mm) and the Pro-Line Pro-Spec 70-75mm Scaler Shocks with hard springs and 60W+ oil are perfect choice in rear.

What materials and technologies do you use?

When engineering any details of the Flatgekko™ C23 V1 LCG Crawler Chassis System we keep on using the latest technologies and high-tech materials.

FR-4

The Flatgekko™ C23 V1 LCG chassis rails are made of FR-4. FR-4 is a NEMA grade designation for glass-reinforced epoxy laminate material. FR-4 is a composite material composed of woven fiberglass cloth with an epoxy resin binder that is flame resistant (self-extinguishing).

Onyx / Onyx + Carbon

Onyx is a micro carbon fiber filled nylon that yields accurate parts with impeccable surface finish. Few materials have the versatility of Onyx. It offers high strength, toughness, and chemical resistance when printed alone, and in some cases we use it reinforced with Carbon Fibers to yield aluminum-strength parts.

GreenTEC Pro Carbon

GreenTEC Pro Carbon is an organic material that combines the best of two worlds: the biodegradable filament GreenTEC Pro, made from sustainable resources, and the strength of high-performance carbon fibers. Used for various applications in motorsports, aerospace or medical, carbon is in many cases the best solution. It’s lightweight, resistant to high temperatures and creates a much higher stiffness if added to polymer materials.
